John Deere goes to Castillonnes

The local ‘vert loisirs’ (gardening hardware) store Delpuech has a deal whereby they will service my super duper John Deere sit on mower and sharpen the blades for 49€. I had to get it on the ‘remorque’ (trailer) to transport it there or they would charge 50€ to collect it. The John Deere is an L120 [...]

A burglary in Montauriol - what is rural France coming to?

Cathy and I visited my in-laws house in Montauriol (near Castillonnes) this afternoon. We were a bit shocked to find that the house had been burgled. A shutter was forced open, a window smashed and a few signs of searching. It seems that a set of cutlery was stolen and thats all. They will not be happy [...]

Lucky me!

This morning I noticed that the fosses along the road outside my house were being recut. A JCB was putting the soil it had gouged out into a large lorry. As we have lots of holes, ditches and landscaping to do I decided to go to the lorry driver to ask him if I could [...]

My luxury roof ladder

I have done lots of roof work on the house and to assist with the process I made two roof ladders from liteau and Screwfix roof ladder kits. Screwfix actually sent me two after I had ordered only one. In the end Screwfix told me to keep it. That was the last time Screwfix delivered abroad [...]

Fosse septique

I had a guy from Cantiran in Eymet come to give a devis for a fosse septique. Typically late (40 minutes) he thought we might be able to have the drain from the fosse put into the fosse (ditch) if it is a communal fosse. I must ask at the Mairie.

VEF Immobilier again.

We had a second visit to the cottage from the couple with VEF in Monflanquin. Linda Hey told us that our cottage was the only place they wanted to see a second time. They spent over an hour here. After looking at the cottage they came over to us with a ‘list’ of questions. We [...]

Friday night at Barrie’s bar in Lalandusse

I went to Barrie’s bar on Friday evening and met some friends. Barrie has been running this bar/restaurant in Lalndusse for a few years now with his wife Dorothy. The place is mainly frequented by Brits but there is a regular stream of French people who come to sample fish, chips and mushy peas on [...]

VEF Immo at Monflanquin arranged a viewing today.05-Jan-07

Linda Hey of VEF Immobilier in Monflanquin brought a very nice couple to view our ’cottage’ which is up for sale. It wasn’t the best weather because the visibility was limited due to fog but they still spent about 45 minutes looking over the place. They asked if we had details of renovation costs. Unfortunately [...]

I delivered the tractor today.

Following the sale of the Renault tractor last week I undertook the delivery today. It involved a 2 hour 20 minute drive at about 20 kph. I had to drive up the steep hill into Cahuzac and then through Lauzun, Miramont and a few villages until I got to St Avit. It was quite an [...]

House for sale in Cahuzac

We have decided to sell one of the houses on our site; we call it the cottage. It is a very pretty house which needs a lot of work to bring it back to life. It has planning permission to be as much as 328 m2 if all the attached outbuildings were developed to their [...]
